In my recent posts, I’ve delved into how ChatGPT can serve as a powerful business tool. Today, I’m excited to provide you with a real-world example of how I’ve been leveraging ChatGPT to boost website traffic for my clients by creating compelling meta descriptions.
Understanding Meta Descriptions
You’ve likely noticed that when you search for something on Google, a brief snippet appears beneath the website link. That’s the meta description, and it plays a crucial role in search engine results. It looks something like this::
How Can Meta Descriptions Boost Website Traffic?
While meta descriptions don’t directly impact search engine rankings, they are a vital element in Google’s search results because they often influence a user’s decision to click through to your website. The Ultimate Meta Description Formula
I’ve been doing SEO strategy for a little over 6 years, so you can imagine that I’ve written a ton of SEO meta descriptions. I’ve written so many that I’ve developed a simple formula that can be applied to any business:
Describe your service or product + highlight the benefits for your target audience + include a call to action = the ultimate meta description.
Here are some additional tips to enhance your meta description:
- Keep it concise: Aim for a length between 120-150 characters, including spaces, as Google cuts off longer descriptions. Google will cut off your description at 150 characters and use “…” for the rest. Most document editors have a word count tool, that is super helpful when editing down your description.
- This is not the place for industry jargon. You want to use language your target audience would use when searching. This is not the place for industry jargon. This can help Google understand what your page is about and show it to users searching for those keywords.
- Create an informative and compelling message that highlights your unique value proposition, product or service benefits, and target audience.
